Lets Get

There are some weddings that feel a little extra special, and Kate and Benaiah’s was definitely one of those for us. We’ve known Kate for years—I started coaching her on our summer league swim team when she was around nine, and Chris has been coaching her for basically her entire life. In fact, the past few summers, Chris and Kate have been coaching together! And now, Kate even babysits our daughter every once in a while. So yes, seeing the little girl we’ve watched grow up step into her wedding dress was a very emotional moment for us! Getting to photograph such a huge milestone for someone who has been a part of our lives for so long made this day at The Barn at Faith Farms in Athens, Tennessee, one we won’t ever forget.

And then there’s Kate and Benaiah’s love story—which, honestly, feels pretty familiar to us. These two met while swimming in college, starting out as friends and teammates before their relationship eventually turned romantic. Somewhere along the way, their friendship grew into something much bigger, and the rest is history. If you know anything about mine & Chris’ love story, you might recognize why this made us smile so much! Our own story started with swimming on the same team in college, being best friends and teammates too, so watching another couple find their forever person through the sport they both loved is pretty dang special.

Swimming was woven into so many little pieces of their wedding day. Their wedding party and so many of their guests came from the swimming world, and every speech included stories and memories from their years in the pool. It felt pretty fitting that the sport that brought Kate and Benaiah together in the first place was such a big part of celebrating them as they officially became husband and wife!

Of course, beyond all of the sentimental swimming moments and stories, it was simply a beautiful day celebrating two people who are so loved. The Barn at Faith Farms was the perfect setting for their summer wedding, and we had the best time photographing all of the happy tears, big laughs, hugs, dancing, and all of the little moments in between. From Kate’s sweet first look with her bridesmaids, to the faith centered-ceremony, and super fun reception, the entire day felt like a true reflection of Kate and Benaiah and the people who mean the most to them.

Getting to photograph a wedding is always an honor, but getting to photograph the wedding of someone you’ve watched grow up is something we don’t take for granted. Kate, seeing you as a bride was every bit as emotional as I knew it would be, and we are so happy you found your forever teammate in Benaiah. We’re incredibly grateful that we got to be there to document the beginning of this next chapter—and even more grateful that swimming brought all of us together in the first place. Congratulations, Kate and Benaiah! We’ll be cheering you two on for all the years ahead!
